Veronica Mars - Catching up
I've been a little lax with my Veronica Mars recaps and what really hurt me was missing an episode. That really put me behind the proverbial eight ball. Sometime within the next several days, I'll have a recap and comments on last night's episode, which ended the second story arc of the season. So here are the previous 3 episode recaps and the final one has a comment from me because of an interesting turn that the show will take.

Note to htbthomas: Read this if you feel like you can't wait to catch up by watching these episodes.

Thanks, as always, goes out to TV.com for the recaps.

There's Got to Be a Morning After Pill

Veronica keeps having nightmares about Logan and Madison having sex. She breaks up with Logan because she can't get over that he slept with Madison. Logan leaves a message, apologizing, but Veronica doesn't listen to that part of it.

Keith asks Mindy why the police report said there was a minivan in the parking lot. She said she was driving the Volvo that night. She had switched cars with him for the weekend so he could move his son's drum equipment.

Steve, Mindy's ex-husband, breaks into her house. She hasn't been paying the money she promised him because she can't afford it now that Cyrus has died. Mindy calls Keith to help her, since he lives nearby.

Keith inspects the Volvo while he is at Mindy's house and removes a small piece of eggshell from under the windshield wiper.

Bonnie tells Veronica that she was pregnant, but someone slipped her an RU-486, a drug to induce a miscarriage. Veronica suspects Tim or Dick, the possible fathers, but it was Bonnie's roommate.

While investigating Tim, Veronica discovers that he is investigating Dean O'Dell's supposed suicide. He found an earwitness, Anthony, who heard the shot, but was drunk. It occurred around 2:20 AM.

Postgame Mortem

Logan is very depressed. He just eats and sleeps. Dick goes out with a girl, they go to Vegas, get married, then want a divorce. The girl's little sister is left with Logan in his hotel suite. She is very cheerful and tries to convince Logan to make more of an effort to get Veronica back. She dedicates a song on the radio to Veronica, from Logan. Veronica and Logan have an awkward encounter in the elevator but don't talk much.

Keith tells Mindy he's dropping the case concerning Dean O'Dell. He tells her he found a piece of eggshell in the car windshield wiper, which means the car was in the college parking lot the night the dean was killed. Mindy claims she was in the hotel the whole night. The late night call she made to Hank was from downstairs in the hotel, when she asked him what brand of toothpaste he wanted her to pick up from house keeping. Hank confirms this. Keith doesn't drop the case.

Veronica finds out from Tina that Rory Finch (Hank) bought a movie from pay-per-view the night of the murder. Hank knows the details of the movie when questioned by Veronica. Mindy doesn't know the details of the movie when questioned by Keith.

Veronica finds out from Jeff that two men were arguing in Hank and Mindy's hotel room on December 10th while Jeff was at the door about to deliver food. He says a woman picked up the food later.

Keith implies to Mindy that she might have been involved in her husband's death. Mindy fires Keith, but he tells her he will keep investigating the case.

The college's basketball coach is found dead near the P.C.H. Coach Barry's son Josh plays on the basketball team. Lamb suspects that Josh is the murderer. They had a fight after a game. Josh says he went to talk to his dad to apologize and discovered that he had been murdered.

At first, the bikers are considered, but they tell Veronica that they don't use guns to hijack cars. Veronica goes to the scene of the murder and notices that they are car tracks by the cliff, indicating that the coach's car was pushed over the edge.

Mason, another basketball player, tells Lamb that he saw Josh fighting with his dad. Josh is arrested for the murder of the Coach Barry. Josh tells Veronica that Mason has a temper and was mad at the coach for not starting him. Josh also says that Mason has a gun, but Mason doesn't confirm or deny this.

Veronica bakes him cookies and hides them inside one of the books she brings for him. Josh glances at his emaciated cell mate, but doesn't share. Veronica is later arrested for aiding in Josh's escape.

Mars, Bars

Veronica was arrested for aiding and abetting Josh's escape because she baked him peanut butter cookies, and he's allergic to peanuts. He had a reaction to her cookies and after the ambulance came and the paramedic administered the Epi pen, Josh overpowered him and escaped.

When Veronica is released, she discovers that Josh has locked Mason up in his trunk. The gun Mason has doesn't match the bullet that killed the coach.

Keith discovers that Coach Barry had a terminal disease which would give him a long, painful death. Veronica makes Josh a new ID and brings him to the bank to get his coin collection so he can sell it for money. Josh finds a DVD with his coins. Coach Barry made the DVD to tell Josh that he killed himself with the help of his friend. He didn't want to suffer or put a financial burden on his family. Josh leaves the country until his mom can collect the money from his father's insurance policy.

Mac, Bronson, Parker, and Logan go on a scavenger hunt for Valentine's Day. Mac and Bronson have sex. Parker and Logan hit it off.

Mel Stoltz paid an unexpected visit to the dean on the night of his death. Dean O'Dell took the prescription anti-anxiety medicine Xanax, but the prescription had run out. Mindy signed for his refill on Dec. 10. She said she took some because she was upset by her husband's death.

Lamb checks the dean's keyboard and discovers Steve Batando's fingerprints. Steve says Mindy is setting him up.

Landry discovers his phone has been bugged and he thinks either Keith or Veronica bugged him. Both say they did not. Landry tells Keith that he watched the Clippers game the night of the dean's death. Veronica realizes that when games are on, the other TV shows are pushed back. This means that when Anthony was watching Space Ghost, it was really 3:30 AM instead of 2:30, which changes the dean's time of death. Mindy's car had been returned the hotel by then.

Lamb and Sacks go to the O'Dells when a break-in is reported. It's Steve Batando, who hits Lamb with a baseball bat, killing him. Keith becomes the new sheriff.

Weevil discovers a bloody shirt and gloves in the basement of a college building. The shirt belongs to Hank Landry. Keith asks Mindy if she's covering for Hank or if Hank is covering for her.

This is the best episode of the series for one simple reason, Lamb is dead. I thought he was a complete idiot and if it wasn't for Keith and Veronica, some of the bad guys that get put away wouldn't have. 'Nuff said.
